This was it! GRP #1 - the very first recording in the stream of great music which led the record company to consistently remain at the top of jazz labels for years - in terms of sales, music and technical quality.
It might well be said that Dave Grusin has had the best of all worlds, being equally at home producing and playing with the very best musicians on both coasts of the US - local performers who represent the state of the art at their own instruments
But to combine the distinctive sounds of East and West coasts, to assemble the best of these distinctive worlds of jazz, that was the vision Dave Grusin had in mind when he first started planning this album which would combine fusion, film music and a 14-minute concerto for orchestra and jazz instrumentalists.
A live recording date at Tokyo's Budokan was the fulfillment of that dream. Dave Grusin's concept of the perfect combination of musicians from New York and Los Angeles - was realized in the N.Y./L.A. Dream Band. And to top it off, the performance was recorded on video.
